The first time KTM RC8 concept model released in Tokyo Motor Show 2003. Austrian motorcycle manufacturer is always wearing an aggressive marketing approach and chose Tokyo to introduce the RC8 with the intent to challenge the big four Japanese motorcycle manufacturers. KTM challenge explicitly stated in the sentence that was written with the typical color KTM, orange, "If we can beat you in the off-road, we also can beat you on the street".
RC8 originally formed with 2-cylinder 999cc engine and later became 4-cylinder 990cc engine. KTM are not satisfied, then completely overhauled and develop new engine V75 1148cc 2-cylinder, which took 30 months. In the last 2 years together with Ducati, KTM to lobby against the World Superbike Championshop regulators to allow the motor with 1200cc engine is included in the race.
